Gmail: Sync Contacts & Calendars on iPhone
End User Technologies. July 2013

pictureGoogle supported Google Sync on iPhone so users could get their Contacts and Calendars synched to their iPhones, but earlier this year it discontinued Google Sync support for non-business Gmail users.

If you are a Gmail business user, you can configure your iPhone email using "Microsoft Exchange" account which uses Active Sync to synchronize your contacts and calendars,

If you are a Gmail non-business user, you can sync Google Contacts and Calendar using CardDav and CalDav protocols. On your iPhone running iOS 6, do the following (this example uses John Doe as user):

1) Google Mail: Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Add Account, Gmail:

Name: John Doe

Email: jdoe@gmail.com

Password: ******

Description: John Doe's Email

2) Google Contacts: Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Add Account, Other, Add CardDAV Account:

Server: google.com

User Name: jdoe

Password: ********

Description: Google Contacts

2) Google Calendar: Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Add Account, Other, Add CalDAV Account:

Server: google.com

User Name: jdoe@gmail.com (use @gmail.com in the user name)

Password: ********

Description: Google Calendar

Open iPhone Calendar and verify that you can view and modify your Google Calendar. Open iPhone Contacts and verify that you can view and modify your Google Contacts.

To remove the above accounts from your iPhone, simply select Delete Account for each of the above three accounts in Settings, Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
